APPENDIX #2: GREEK WORDS IN N.T. WITH "STASIS"
- "STASIS" comes from the root "HISTEMI", meaning "TO STAND".
- Of the 18 Greek prepositions, 4 which are used as prefixes with "STASIS"
are:
- ANA = UP, UPON;
- EK = OUT FROM, AWAY FROM;
- EPI = UPON, IN THE PRESENCE OF;
- HUPO = UNDER;
- This gives us the words:
- EK + STASIS = EKSTASIS, to stand out from. It is used 7x and
translated as: trance, amazement, astonishment.
- ANA + STASIS = ANASTASIS, to stand up. It is used 42x and
translated 39x as "resurrection".
- EK + ANA + STASIS = EXANASTASIS, resurrection out from. It
is used 1x in Phil.3:11 and translated as "resurrection".
- EPI + STASIS = EPISTASIS (or EPISUSTASIS in some mss), that
which comes upon (i.e. PRESSURE is implied). It is used 2x, in Acts 24:12
and in II Cor. 11:28.
- HUPO + STASIS = HUPOSTASIS , to stand under, a foundation.
It is used 5x and translated as "confidence". In Koine Greek this word
referred to "a title-deed to a property".
